Reporting into the Senior Product Designer for New Product Innovation, this role carries responsibility for adding value to the design proposition from earliest research and insight through concept development and design for manufacture.
As NPD Designer this role requires a natural aptitude for aesthetic form, and the ability to observe and communicate evidence-based foundations for creative concepts, to ensure we design innovative products.
Applicants must have a keen interest in new technology and product design, and be able to generate ideas, prototypes, and presentation material of exceptional quality. The successful candidate is likely to demonstrate an excellent design portfolio showing critical thinking and concept execution.
Requirements
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Experience of working within and leading multi-disciplinary teams to innovate and deliver with the highest quality in short time scales
- Ability to work multiple projects running on both parallel and differing critical paths
- Proven ability to take an idea all the way from sketches on paper through to mass production
- Experience in dealing with confidential information
- Working in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional graphical skills including rapid communication of ideas (hand sketching and Adobe CS )
- Proven 3D CAD competency (SolidWorks), CAD rendering (KeyShot )
- Contagious enthusiasm – hard-working, attentive to detail and highly organized.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the Lead Product Designer with resource and project planning, directly related to product development.
- Provide creative leadership for the segment of product development you are responsible for.
- Assist in the realisation of technical and creative solutions to briefs set.
- Transfer of designs from concept to manufacturing through liaison with both internal product development teams as well as external suppliers.
- Organise and lead creative workshops, generating and visualising ideas as well as stimulating ideas from the team involved.
- Work closely with the Materials Team, partnering cutting-edge product design with brand new material developments and production techniques, ensuring that the products are designed to perfectly compliment the material choices.
- Have a strong understanding of the human-centred design process.
- Have a strong capacity for critical thought and information synthesis.
- A high level of self-motivation and initiative.
